More on Artiscape

Across the street from the hotel

The Artiscape locations and hotel were in downtown Columbus, Ohio. I was thrilled to see architecture that was only familiar to me from pictures before.

Another class I taught was called "Many Windows." The students prepared canvas backgrounds with paint and/or collage. They then made collages on 3" square wood panels. (I'm very grateful to my stepdad, Rob, for cutting 150 pieces of wood for me!) When the collages were finished, the students glued them onto the decorated canvas, creating a mini art gallery.

Here are some pictures of work in progress and finished pieces. Each piece was so different and so lovely. I'll let the pictures be enough description.

Back from Artiscape

European Papers, at last

I had a wonderful time at Artiscape in Columbus Ohio. Retreat workshops were held at four locations and we stayed at the nearby Hyatt Hotel. The four workshops I taught were at the gorgeous European Papers shop and studio. I've been longing to see this place and was so pleased to actually be there. (You can order supplies online, so check it out!) A friend from Art and Soul at Hampton was there which was a delightful surprise for me. It was great to re-connect after two years.

The first class I taught was "Journal to the Center." Students were given written and visual prompts for starting their visual journals. Some students chose to focus on creating backgrounds and completed visuals for their pages, while others focused on writing from the prompts.

Here are some pictures from the workshop:

Vibrant accordion journal

Pages for when you've got the Blues

My friend Janet's mixed media page

Richly layered pages in progress

Strong narratives without words

Backgrounds with the look of aged metal

A tale of journeys and displacement

Paint, collage paper, and stamping--yummy

A visual haiku page spread in progress

Using the prompt "silken" for a title page

Exuberant pages and an artist's paint-stained hands

Me with a student at European Papers

Simple. elegant, and inspiring

Homage to the past

Using visual and written prompts

Many thanks to the students who took this class and took the plunge "to the center."

Off to Artiscape!

I'm getting all my last minute items together
for the Artiscape Retreat in Columbus Ohio. This event is sponsored by European Papers, a shop I can't wait to see in person.

This event is a little different for me as I'll be teaching four shorter classes, 2.5-3.5 hours long. This means taking a lot of supplies
and having still more sent. Now arranging this is finished, and I can enjoy the anticipation of a delightful art-filled long weekend.

The hotel is in downtown Columbus with a shuttle to the workshop sites. I'll be teaching at European Papers itself and will doubtless find opportunities to add to my own paper stash. The shop is located in an old carriage house and is close to Topiary Park.

I'll also be showing and selling my work at the Outsider Art Fair. I'm so excited, I wish I could be there right now!

Colorado Winter

Colorado Winter
Acrylic on Wood Panel
5" x 5"

I've never been to Colorado, but a friend told me this piece looks like Colorado in wintertime, so I'm taking her word for it. I really want to go there someday!
